*Beatrice the Dancing Bee Illustrations

I started work on this story about three years ago and was my first time illustrating one of my stories.   This also was the first time I used photoshop and a scanner!

ALIEN GARDENERS

I had the idea five years ago that a lonely boy who loves making things grow is helped by a clan of loveable aliens who love gardening too!

All of the textures of the illustrations below were home made - they are the result of my first foray into making felt, doing a bit of needle stamping as well as growing my own courgettes!

'Beep' - his skin was my first home-grown courgette!

Fuzz - his material was a mixture of different needle punching!

Thumpy - again, a mixure of materials from a needle punching session

Bernard's skin is bubble wrap painted green

Tina's fabric was the result of some ironing together of pretty materials

Wanda's skin was my first attempt at felting

These little 'Zip' dudes are different materials I used when needle punching to make a nice textured square of material (that ended up looking better on these guys!)

Autumn Booklet

Here are selected pages from an autumn booklet I made for young children to enjoy and interact with this special season:

Little Red

This character was also inspired by the autumn.  After some illustration ideas, I played around with a 3D look using paper and cardboard - this is an ongoing project that will include colour - especially red!
